Kliphuis

There is an old Boesmansgrot not far from the main house on Groenvlei Plaas, overlooking the Olifants River.

Oupa Jack and Ouma Lenie, always up for a challenge and adventure, toyed with the idea to transform the cave into a lovely reception area to host guests, especially tourists who came from far and wide to see the beauty that the Namaqualand flowers have to offer.

After careful consideration and a plaas meeting with Oom Wynie and Tannie Ronel, the idea became a reality. Of course, lots of work had to be done, but everyone stepped in and the venue was ready in no time.

It didn’t take long for the word to spread of a lekker new kuier plek. People came from far and wide, even our very own celebraties… From Spies en Plessis, Worsie Visser to Pasella and probably your ouma and oupa too. Ouma Lenie and Ronel cooked proper boerekos, Wynie het gebraai and Oupa Jack entertained the guests with music – 250 guests, sometimes twice a day. This was very big news, even die Huisgenoot did a story!

There were some changes throughout the years, Boesmansgrot was changed to Kliphuis and a camping area was added for the Swart Tobie Hiking Trail. But today, Kliphuis is still a favourite among the local community and adventure seekers.
