Hiking at Groenvlei Plaas

Once upon a time, there was a legend in Koekenaap… It wasn’t a Toyota Bakkie, it was Wynie Wickens.

Born and bred in Koekenaap, adventure and passion pumped through Wynie’s veins from a very young age.

Wynie was the living proof of the expression “do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life”. He shared his love of the outdoors with the love of his life Ronel, and together they embarked on an adventure to bring the Swart Tobie Hiking Trail to life.  

Armed with passion and love for all things geographical, ecological, historical, and his moerse general knowledge, the first hiking group joined Wynie and Ronel in 2002.

The whole family was involved from being hiking guides, drivers, catering team, and marketing specialists. It was and still is a family-run trail.
